HIST-1302-81422 October 12, 2020 The Vietnam War The chapter of “The Impossible Victory" describes the involvement of the United States in Vietnam and how the politicians saw a communist leader Ho Chi Minh as a threat to the world's well-being. According to them, there was the "The Domino Theory" which means if one country falls to communism, more will follow and eventually the whole world will be controlled by one single system of government. We can clearly see from this theory that the United States was attempting to dominate the world by forcing other nations to follow their "Democratic system." In that case, preventing Vietnam's unity was basically the first push that was used in Vietnam in order to contain communism. At that time, thousands of soldiers were exhausted from the war and regretted their decision to go to Vietnam to kill unarmed civilians, including women and children. The sad thing is that there were still unexploded mines that killed people in the years that followed, and that Vietnamese mothers reported birth defects in their children as well. I also believe this was an act of dishonesty since many parents of American soldiers have been deceived into believing that their children were fighting for the "freedom" of their country. Seeing all the incidents of foreign involvement by this country suddenly makes me realize this is a well-known pattern which tends to repeat itself in American history.
