Ricki Wright Professor Morgan HIST 2321-290 Exploration December 1, 2020 In the 15 th century the European economics this was the main interest to the cause of exploration. The three main reasons that motivated them was new trades, spices, and the search for gold. The discoveries of faster and cheaper trade routes to Asia, where spices could be traded were a profitable commodity in Europe. The Muslim merchants were the ones that brought spices trades to Europe. The Europeans engaged with exploration of many parts of the world. European exploration during this period was improvements in sea-going technology. Better ship- building techniques and navigational advances, such as an improved compass and sextant, in combination with advances in cartography map-making meaning to make it easier, faster, and relatively safer for European sailors. They established direct contract with, Africa, Asia, the Americans, and the Oceania. The contract between trade routes made it easier to exchange things produced from different cultures for example plants, animals, communicable diseases, and people including slaves. In the readings of The Silk Roads in chapter 11, The Road to Gold it tells of the reality of the explorations and expansions of discoveries. The Europeans not only wanted to explore the world but also wanted to dominate it. Christopher Columbus, who a navigator and admiral, proposed his plans by sailing around the world. The article written by Geoff Wade; it examines the actions of the Ming maritime expeditions led by Admiral Zheng He (1371-1433) in the early fifteenth century on the Indian Ocean diplomacy of trade and cross- cultural interactions. The expeditions formed the movement of movements of people and animals across the oceanic regions. In James Axtell’s article, “Moral Reflections on the Columbian
Legacy,” he explains the major impact this merge of the two worlds had on each other, especially the effect Europe and Asia had on the Americas. He also explains that we should hear the accounts of both sides before judging about any historical events.
