Below you will find 3 essays.
You must choose 1 of the 3
essays to answer for
the exam.
(40 points = approx. 35 percent of the overall exam grade)
Each essay must be written in paragraph format using complete sentences and
correct spelling and acceptable grammar for college-level students.
Read them carefully and thoroughly answer all parts of each question being
asked.

Appropriately use both quotation marks and in-line citations for all direct
quotes.

Use specific examples and details from your assigned readings in both
your books (“Give Me Liberty” and “Voices of Freedom”).
o
The assigned readings along with the assigned videos in your weekly
folders on Blackboard should be used as sources of evidence and
examples to support your response.
These are the only acceptable
resources for the exam!
While a few short, direct quotes are fine (properly cited!), the majority of what you
write should be in your own words.
Your completed essay should be about 500 words in length.

The first half of the nineteenth century witnessed the rise of the market revolution
with diverse and far-reaching consequences.
a. Identify and discuss the major characteristics of the Market Revolution.
b. Identify and discuss the improvements in transportation and communication
that were taking place in the early 19th century.

Explain how those improvements made possible the rise of the West as a
powerful, self-conscious region of the new nation.

One German newcomer wrote that “there aren’t any masters [in America],
here everyone is a free agent.” How accurate a statement was that? Explain.
