Distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
A Primary source is information that comes from when the event happened, by a person who
either lived or experienced such an event firsthand.
A Primary source can be anything from a
piece of written work, a photo, or a letter about the experience from someone who has 1
st
hand
knowledge due to them being present at that time.
A Secondary source is organized by a researcher or a historiographer who studied the event from
a primary source.
You can only make a secondary source after the event occurred. It can be a
biography or an article in a book from a person involved in the event possibly years later.
Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include
specific details and examples.
You need to check multiple sources when you are looking at historical research since there are
various prejudices that are demonstrated in every individual’s historical formation.
If
somebody claims a primary source, for example, that they were there at the time of this event,
their judgment might be hazy due to the feelings that they experienced throughout the event.
Looking at the secondary sources can help when looking at an event because the individuals
writing that have done their research already from primary sources to make the secondary
sources.
Certain authors of the secondary sources chose to focus on the different elements that
centered around that event.
Identify one
primary
source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author,
and link to the source).

Choose a current event related to the subject of your historical research question and explain how they
are connected.
A current event would be the fact that Russian military forces have seized control of the
Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The president of Ukraine warned that a possible disaster could
happen if Russia continued the invasion of Ukraine.
Since there is no one living in the area
around the nuclear power plant since its decommission, if there is any fighting over the area
could cause radioactive waste to be released.
