The three historical lense you could apply to gain a fuller picture of the relationship between the natives and the white settlers would be the economic, political, and social/cultural lenses. The economic lens should be used due to the acquisition of land to build to Trans-Alaskan pipeline was the greatest economic endeavor in U.S. history. The political lens should be used due to the ongoing conflict between the Natives and the American government. The social lens should be utilized due to the fact that we are looking at a historical event involving America's Aboriginal people. Your revised thesis statement should be longer than one sentence. During the 19th century, conflicts arose between the Natives and the white settlers. This can be attributed to one cause alone, disputes over land. Native Americans were forced to give up their lands to white settlers who were moving westward in search of new land and opportunities. This led to a series of conflicts between the two groups as they fought over land ownership and control. Massasoit's decision to approach the Pilgrims revolved around events like the Patuxet, which had been devastated by disease in addition to being threatened by the Narragansett people, rival tribes. One short-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims would be the binding contract between the two parties referred to as a "mutual defense alliance" to combat their common enemies. One long-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims would be the strained relations between the parties. After so many Englishmen joined the fray, the power shifted in favor of the English.
