Topic 10: New Deal The new deal involved a series of programs launched by United States President Franklin D Roosevelt during his presidency. It was his way to solve all the problems caused by the great depression, which included agricultural overproduction and unemployment. The deal was enacted between 1933 and 1939. (Best
,2021). They had many programs, and most of these programs were universally known. Most of them were abolished during the Second World War, while others are still in operation today. It had some benefits to Americans, one of the significant benefits of restoring public confidence. It also helped in creating new programs that usually brought relief to millions of Americans.
According to the new deal was a failure because it had a lot of weaknesses, and to be open, those weaknesses are the ones that made it not to end the great depression. One of the core weaknesses of the new deal that greatly contributed to its failure was that it upset the balanced federal budget. By doing so, it created a huge deficit for the nation. At the same time, it also failed to end unemployment which was the core problem facing Americans. (
Bell & Bevan,2021). This program was based on the Keynesian theories of economics. These theories were not beneficial to the citizens because they called for massive government spending. As you all see, if you see the government spending a lot of money on a particular project, then be sure that taxes will increase. Remember Americans were suffering economically, and unemployment rates were high. Now you add a program that makes them pay a lot of tax, which will be a total failure, and it made most Americans poorer than before.
(Rainbow et al.,2021). It also fell apart because of the declining influence of labor unions, and it also led to a backlash to racial integration. There was also a
rise in urban crime, the leading cause of this urban crime was the inability of the deal to end unemployment. Those were the main reasons why I view the new deal as a failure.
