Organize your essay, use specific examples, and incorporate materials from the readings and videos (if applicable). Your essay must be at least two pages in length. (120 points): 1. What caused the Great Depression and how did it affect the lives of Americans in the 1930s and early 1940s? Discuss how the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt responded to the crisis, and in what ways his New Deal policies exemplified a broader conception of the role of government in ensuring American liberty, opportunity, and prosperity. 2. When discussing the history of how race has shaped 20 th and 21 st society, most Americans tend to ascribe it to personal, individual relationships rather than institutions of power. Using Japanese American Internment and the experiences of Black and Mexican-Americans in the World War II era, explain how analyzing racism as a structural problem - reinforced through policy helps us better understand its impacts on America then and now.
