Melissa Nguyen HIS 200: Applied History Southern New Hampshire University September 5, 2021 Topic & Research Question Topic The historical event for which I wish to analyze during this course is the Indian Removal Act in 1830. This historical event is significant because it influenced several notable policies and laws over the next three decades. I am interested in Native American experiences during this time and desire to present a historical perspective of the “Trail of Tears” and the impacts on both the Cherokee people and American society. Research Question After conducting an initial review of primary and secondary sources related to the Indian Removal Act, the inquisition remains; what benefits were gained by the Cherokee people who endured the historical event known as the “Trail of Tears” and how did this event impact both the Natives and American society? In other words, what costs ensued from the U.S. government establishing the abolishment of Cherokee and other Native tribes from the east side of the Mississippi River?
