Case Study 10.1
Activity:
Place during the IEP meeting where Ms.
Peterson could have been more involved
Potential questions and/or actions to elicit
meaningful participation
When Mr. Wells and Ms. Smith were going
over the meeting’s documents.
Ms. Peterson could have asked for
clarification of terminology she was
unfamiliar with in both the evaluation results
and IEP.
When Ms. Craft explained why Dan was
failing and the current reading level of her
class
Ms. Peterson could ask for work samples of
Dan’s work and ask for clarification as to why
the 3rd-grade class is reading at a 5th-grade
reading level.
If this is an advanced class?
And if other 3rd-grade classrooms were at
the same level.
A possible switch of a class
could be an option.
At the beginning of the meeting
Ms. Peterson could have asked for a copy of
the documentation that others participating
and reading from possessed.
This is
something that should not need to be asked.
When Ms. Smith stated that Dan would
receive help with social studies and science
Ask for clarification as to why these services
are being provided and if there is a need.
