the Memorial to Congress from the American Woman Suffrage Association. DocsTeach.
(1872, February 6). Retrieved May 22, 2022, from
https://www.docsteach.org/documents/document/awsa-memorial
This was about how the women's suffrage front split due to not getting rights to vote. While
black men got the right to vote with the 15th amendment women had to wait for the 19th
amendment to vote. The National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) and The American
Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) ended up going in different directions to get to the
same result.
Module 6 Short Responses – Question 2
What events or historical forces contributed to the Boston busing crisis of the mid-
1970s? Name at least three, and briefly explain why you think each one was a
contributory cause of the Boston busing crisis.
1. The Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that ruled that racial
segregation in schools was unconstitutional played a contributory role in the Boston busing
crisis.
2. In 1965, the Massachusetts state congress voted and passed a law requiring all segregated
schools to integrate. This law was met with excellent resistance from the Boston School
Committee, and they refused to implement a plan for desegregation, which carried over to the
busing crisis.
3. Judge Garrity's ruling in 1974 that Boston's schools were unconstitutionally segregated.
Garrity's decision forced desegregation by making busing mandatory. This event is
considered by many to be one of the critical events in the busing crisis.
Module 6 Short Responses – Question 3 Name three specific consequences of the Boston
busing crisis.
1. Once busing had become mandatory, white residents impacted the demographic of Boston
by moving out of mixed-race urban areas to the predominately white suburbs. This became
known as white flight.
2. During the busing crisis, black and white students started boycotting the schools by staying
home and not attending. In 1975, fifty percent of students were absent /boycotting.
3. The busing crisis brought about a mass of violent protests leading to the State Police and
National Guard having to escort students in and out of school amidst the fighting

While researching my question, I have changed it up just a little. With the study, the question
can and can not be answered. But we are still using the 19th amendment and women's
suffrage in today's life, and the impacts are evident.
" On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment was certified by U.S. Secretary of State
Bainbridge Colby, and women finally achieved the long-sought right to vote throughout the
United States." (2010, March 5). This shows that we were finally allowed to vote, which was
an outstanding achievement in the 1920s. We continued to make strides on women's suffrage
by being able to play sports at schools. "The amendment read in part, "No person in the
United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity
receiving Federal financial assistance." It had a far-reaching impact on women in sports."
"Also That you will take such additional steps as are necessary, by amending the federal
constitution or otherwise. to prohibit political distinctions on account of sex everywhere.
