Journal 1-3 His 117 For my final paper, I want to focus on Greek Societies, the Persian Empire, and Egyptian society. I picked these choices because of the amount of histories these places hold, and how they are related to my culture and ethnicity. I am fascinated by how these societies and empires were formed, and how they had different successes and failures through the years and still exist today. They also have many similarities and some differences when forming their empire or society. Some of these similarities include religion being a big part of their culture, they also use government and political-like systems, they wanted to build an economy, and wanted to protect their land and society. These empires and societies were formed to provide security for the people with laws and authority, trading agriculture and goods to build the economy, and union in religion and culture. Politics and hierarchy have influenced these societies. In Egyptian society, they used a formal organization to control the people to keep order within, and this caused states to form. Egypt was also very big on agriculture and made sure the people were well-fed to keep strong. Egyptian culture was very focused on wealth and social class. In Greek society, they would trade agriculture to build their economy, used a patriarchal society to rule, and Greeks believed in multiple gods and had different cults as well. In the Persian Empire, they used the government to build their economy by using taxes. They also had social groups within that were members of the free classes and practiced different religious observances (Bentley, Ziegler, and Salter 2021). For a secondary source that will help me prove my thesis I will use “Watering the Desert: Environment, Irrigation, and Society in the Premodern Fayyum, Egypt”. The primary sources
for this time period would have to be something like analyzing the artifacts and scriptures found in Greece. The article that I found analyzes some of the ancient artifacts found in Greece. There are drawings and sculptures that represent the premodern life.
