Kaitlyn Avard CJ321 Philip Dawalt Sunday November 12, 2023 Module Three Journal The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation offers various programs, such as educational and self-improvement programs, trade skills training, and courses that help inmates refine their basic life skills. Beyond Violence is used in our women's prison to help women understand their trauma and help them relate to their experience with their criminal justice involvement. They also begin their journey. Phoenix New Freedom is a program used as what they call a force multiplier for correctional facilities that offer behavioral health treatment. They do workbooks and individual sessions. CBISA means cognitive behavioral intervention for substance abuse. This program will help assist in learning skills to avoid substance abuse. The best practice is the beyond violence program. This is because the inmates go through therapy and workbooks to have a better understanding of their trauma and how to handle it. The recidivism rate is 30% according to federal reports but in 2018 the director of the North Dakota department of Corrections and rehabilitation stated that they are down to 13%.
