Quality Improvement Participation Summary
For this participation opportunity the students were asked to assess the changes that need to be done to help the physical therapy practice run smoother. There have been complaints from clients specifically about appointment scheduling and how it is not very easy to
do. Clients are thinking about going to another physical therapy practice if the problems aren’t fixed. Students had different answers in how they would go about changing these problems. Some common answers the students shared were that they’d first assess the current process for appointment scheduling then review the complaints the patients had about the process. They might send surveys out to patients to see what they could change or contact them about specific problems that were having. Next, they would want to examine the inefficiencies of the programing to see where the problem was occurring. After this they would try to implement new software’s for the patients by using a scheduling process that was directly from the practice’s website or mobile app to be more user-friendly and accessible for patients to use. A few other thoughts:
Look at industry standards and determine if adequate time is being provided to the client as well as if clinicians have adequate time to chart between clients
Schedule a meeting with employees to discuss and get their input about the problem
Have a focus group of clients, to discuss issues.
