Assignment 2: Introduction to Revit
Step 1:
Double-click the Autodesk Revit icon to open the software program. Step 2:
Click “New” under “Projects” in the opening interface to open a new project file.

Click on the “Architecture” tab. Place the cursor over the “Wall” element to enable a pop-up window with information about the “Wall” element. You will notice that the title of the pop-up window says “Wall (WA)”. This means that typing “WA” can be used as a shortcut to create a wall. Step 6:
Click on the black arrow to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar links at the top of the program screen.

The “Properties” Palette allows designers to navigate the model, alter properties of objects and change the view settings. The “Properties” Palette is shown below.
Revit is driven by parameters which are contained in the “Properties”. Parameter values are defined as the properties of an object. There are two types of parameters: 1) Instance Parameter and 2) Type Parameter. Action Item 5:
Change the “Discipline” to “Structural” for the Floor Plan: Level 1. Click the pull-
down menu for the “Discipline” element in the “Properties” Palette. Click “Structural” as the “Discipline” and click “Apply” at the bottom of the “Properties” Palette. Take a screenshot of the
updated “Properties” Palette.

Open the file called “Assignment 2 Model”. This file is located in the “Assignment 2” tab
in the “Assignments” section of Canvas. This file needs to be opened using Autodesk Revit. The opening view of the file is a default 3D view. Step 13:
Double-click on “Level 1” in the “Floor Plans” section of the “Project Browser” to open a 2D view of the file. 9

Click on the “2D Steering Wheel” icon located on the top of the “2D Navigation Palette”
shown below boxed in red. The “2D Navigation Palette” is located on the top right of the model. The “2D Navigation Palette” allows for viewing the model from different viewpoints.

Click the pull-down list from “Zoom” function on the “2D Navigation Palette” and shown in the red box below. Action Item 7:

Step 16:
Switch to a 3D view of the structure. Click the “View” tab, click the pull-down menu from the “3D View” option and click on “Default 3D View”. Action Item 8:
Provide a screenshot of the 3D Default View of the structure.
Step 17:
The “View Cube” is located in the top right of your screen. This allows quick navigation in 3D from pre-defined viewpoints. Once your cursor is positioned on the “View Cube”, a small house will appear at the top left of the cube. When clicked, this icon positions the model back to the 3D Default View.
