Scenario A
The suggestion of the behavior analyst to use a token economy for in-seat behavior of their 8-year-old
client is a signal behavior target and a single intervention within a singular setting. Within the
intervention the behavior analyst wishes to determine what tokens would be more effective in
reinforcing the in-seat behavior and has three designs in mind, Spiderman, poker chips and happy faces.
In order to determine which token is more effective, using an Alternating Treatment Design would be the
most advantageous as the purpose is to compare two or more independent variables on a single
behavior (Richards, S. B., 2019).
In utilizing an Alternating Treatment Design the behavior analyst can
quickly alternate the reinforce with no required baseline data and does not require the reversal or
withdrawal of the intervention. This intervention can be used over multiple days, within one session, or
at different times throughout the day (Richards, S. B., 2019) to quickly assess the effectiveness of each
token.
