Unit 4 Assignment A product design process is a series of steps that a business uses to design and develop a product. According to an article by the Engineering Product Design (2023), they state that because of how complex society is today, it is important for a company to research and implement a product design process before putting products out in the market. Looking at the beverage company, Hot n’ Cold Beverages, a product design process will need to be developed in order to help the company grow. The first step of the product design process is idea generation. The company knows that consumers love to drink so it is important to understand what customers would like. Starting out it would be good to survey customers to find out what they like. It would be a good idea to bring out a limited and recyclable bottle drink that relates to a big event such as Super Bowl Sunday. The company can promote the drink as the ‘Super Sweet Soda’ and have an incentive that people who buy and recycle a certain number of bottles get a chance to win tickets to the game and a cash prize. This will encourage customers to buy the product and reduce waste. With the last step as the product launch, it can be promoted throughout the football season leading up to a drawing where a certain number of people can win. By promoting the beverage during high volume events such as the Super Bowl it will help the launch of the product. This is because it will be easier to market the product to the target audience since there is a popular market for sports. To help with the product design, the company can go one step further and add on celebrities and athletes to promote the product. This will attract more consumers to the new product beverage because it will be promoted by people they know and are influenced by. A service design is the process of planning and implementing tasks in order to improve the quality of a product or service. In the course textbook by Roberta Russell and Bernard Taylor
(2023), they discuss the different characteristics of a service design. The banking mobile app that I have designed is called Bank & Go. Any user of the app will be able to do everything that they could do at a physical bank, but online instead that includes checking their account and transferring funds. Looking at the first step for the service design, it states that services are intangible meaning untouchable or unable to see. Because of this, customers are uneasy about apps that they download on their phone. The Bank & Go app will make sure that the customers’ personal information is protected through our encrypted software that is updated daily. The service design process must also have an output that is variable. We will be sure to have training and guidelines put in place so that everyone involved in the Bank & Go app will understand the expectations. The third step of the service design process is the high customer contact. Our app Bank & Go will include a feature where customers can get in touch with representatives if they have questions and concerns. This is good because it will show customers that we are putting them and their needs first. Another characteristic of the service design is that the devices are perishable. The timing of the app is important and customers should be aware of the service they are using so the Bank & Go app will be sure to set the standards and requirements before anyone downloads the app so that they have a chance to look over and accept the terms. In the service design process, it is crucial to look at the service delivery. With our app Bank & Go, we will get customer feedback on the app to ensure that we are providing the best quality that includes improving and adding new features to make banking easier for customers. Our app Bank & Go will also be open to new ideas that can help the company grow. Employees will always be welcome to be in the process of making the app and helping the creators generate ideas that will advance the app. Since services are consumed more than products, the creators will make sure that the Bank & Go app is designed carefully and tested frequently to ensure that
