4-2 Final Project Milestone Two: Project Plan IT 510 Q2518 – Advanced Information Technologies 23TW2 Kevin Schwallier Southern New Hampshire University 12/26/2023
Project Plan R/Way’s president understands there is a need for an upgrade in the company’s current system consisting of a file server and three workstations. He is willing to make the necessary changes to eliminate Freight Clerks from obtaining data from the server and using a database and a spreadsheet program to create invoices on items to be shipped. A new system would be more efficient and keep employees from having to do extra tasks to get one job done. He has considered a budget of $35,000 to start with and is willing to negotiate more resources if needed if the new system can maximize productivity and help make profits. I am going to implement the Object-Oriented (O-O) analysis method to develop the new system within the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). O-O analysis is more cost effective compared the Structured Analysis, the phases of development are more interactive, and iterations will lead to prototypes of the system (Tilley & Rosenblatt, 2017). I will provide a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) from start to finish, a Timeline of the project from a Monitoring and Control plan and evaluation of time for each phase and I will define costs and resources needed, required steps, functions, and duration of the project.
Work Breakdown Structure Starting the project off, the Project Manager will review the R/Way business case proposal, company mission statement and information gathered from observations and interviews of the current system. Meetings will be held with the President, Stakeholders, System Analyst, Database Administrator, and Support Specialist to make sure the new system will align with the company’s needs. The System Analyst and Project Manager will gather information by conducting interviews with Freight Clerks. During this time, the Project Manager will develop the plan. After the interviews are complete, the System Analyst will observe the Freight Clerks in their daily operations. Once the plan is developed, the Project Manager will review the project proposal with the President. Upon approval of the proposal, the Project Manager will assign tasks by creating a schedule and the System Analyst will create a systems checklist and start designing the Object-Oriented Model. The System Analyst will acquire the hardware and software based on the Database Administrators’ needs. The Support Specialist will install the new hardware, set up the configuration and run operating system updates. Next, the Database Administrator will design the relational database prototypes using the Object-Oriented programming language SQL and then transfer the R/Way existing account files into the new system. The System Analyst will review the prototypes with the Project Manager for verification and they will present them to the President and Freight Clerks to validate the system. Meetings will be held with all parties involved to finalize the project and determine if any additional recommendations are needed. Upon verification that the new system meets the company’s needs, the System Analyst will have training sessions on data entry and database management for the new system. You may notice that I have added milestones throughout the project to help keep it on time. This project is slated to be completed in 75 days.
