Community Advocacy Agencies Resources By: Anne Ortiz December 14, 2023 The Importance of Resources Having a child with disabilities can require the need for more help. Resources throughout the community and state can help provide additional assistance for these families. The list of resources below are specific in academic, transition, and/or vocational skills for individuals with disabilities. The resources specialize with providing assistance in these areas and behaviors that may be required for the child to be successful. I hope that this resource is a tool families can utilize to eliminate the stresses of finding agencies for their loved one, and allow them to spend time with and enjoy the help that is being received. 10 Community Resources Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP) : This agency provides free information conferences for parents to promote a partnership essential for supporting and including children with disabilities and their families in schools and the community. Visit the website https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdesped/pep PEAK Parent Center: Advocates help to ensure that all people with disabilities are fully included in their neighborhood schools, communities, and employment. They have webinars that can be attended by any community member. They also hold events, but because we are at the end of the year non are currently available. You may also reach them via email at parentadvisor@peakparent.org THRIVE Center: Helps to support families of low income, culturally and linguistically diverse families, as advocates for their children with disabilities. All resources are free to families. This agency also offers four programs: 3 TO 5 Program (designed to provide a foundation before entering elementary school), Project Independence (help disabled children become independent), On Alert ( designed for Black Indigenous People of Color), and Family to Family (health care needs for Colorado Families). Colorado Council for Learning Disabilities (CCLD) : CCLD provides resources to support a collaborative effort between general education, special education, families and related professionals. They believe that all students can engage in higher-level learning with the implementation of evidenced-based instructional practices. They are also affiliated with the CLD. They do offer conferences, at this time the next conference is Math on the Plane, there is no date assigned to this currently but for more information visit the website at https://www.cocld.org/
The Arc: This agency serves and believes that all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have inherent value and must be treated with dignity and respect. This agency actively supports full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. For more information contact the agency at (303) 864- 9334 or visit the website at https://thearc.org/ Early Intervention Colorado : This agency provides support and services to children with developmental delays or disabilities as well as their families from birth until the child’s third birthday. The help with referrals, evaluations, and informational webinars. For more information contact the agency at (888) 777-4041 or visit https://dcfs.my.salesforce-sites.com/eicolorado/EI_Home?lang=en Learning Disabilities Association of America, Colorado Chapter: This agency provides support to people with learning disabilities, their parents, teachers, and other professionals. LDAC provides workshops and conferences to provide parents and teachers with the most up-to date information. They also offer IEP advocacy. This program helps to provide independent living and employment opportunities for those individuals with disabilities. For more information visit https://coloradosilc.org/community-feedback-forum/ Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE): This agency formerly known as the Assistive Technology Partners empowers individuals with disabilities to be as successful as possible through the use of assistive technology. They have four programs: Colorado assistive tech, Assistive tech in Colorado schools, Early childhood, and Emergency preparedness.
