The approach of project prioritization that was exemplified by Lynx Manufacturing in this module shows how a non-centralized project management process often turns out to be. In this case study, each of the four main teams were operating in silos. Whenever this occurs, especially in the project space, it is common for there to be a singular focus and a lack of cohesion between different teams in the organization. This has the potential to result in duplicate efforts or conflicting results that end up costing the organization more time and resources to align at a future time. In order to have more oversight and structure, Lynx Manufacturing would greatly benefit from implementing a Project Management System (PMS). When beginning this process, the organization needs to do an analysis of their current project management environment in order to determine how to approach the change management process in implementing a system (PMSRC, Module 5.1). Given the information we were provided with in the case study, I anticipate that this change will take time to be adopted by the key stakeholders involved, as they would be giving up a significant amount of power that they currently have. The owner of this process would need to ensure that they spent time with each directorate in understanding their current state of operations and their main concerns in order to adapt their communications with them to achieve the most positive outcome possible.
In this week's module, I was able to review the demo of the Isie Enterprises portfolio management system. While I am new to the project management space, I found viewing this demo very helpful in understanding how important a project management system is for an organization. Having a standardized prioritization process that is based on company goals is crucial in getting a holistic and objective view of the projects being presented. It is also important to be able to have metrics to present upon and record of past project proposals to do an accurate assessment of the impact of each project
on the overall organizational objectives.
