Windows 10 Upgrade Plan for Tetra Shillings Accounting LLC Prepared by: Objective The ultimate goal of this upgrade is to meet all of Tetra Shillings Accounting’s business and security needs. My recommendation is to upgrade the current Windows 8.1 Enterprise to the Windows 10 Enterprise operating system. This upgrade will assist with cybersecurity breaches and keeping the company’s critical information secure. Moreover, this upgrade plan includes Windows Update strategies for keeping the system updated after upgrade has been conducted. Benefits of upgrading to Windows 10 According to Microsoft, Windows 8.1 reached its end of support on January 10, 2023 [1]. Reaching end of life means that there will no longer be any technical support or software/security updates for that OS. “While you could continue to use a PC running Windows 8.1, without continued software and security updates, your PC will be at greater risk for viruses and malware [1].” Upgrading the current Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 will have various benefits eliminating security issues. A few of Windows 10 security features that would most benefit the organization’s computer security posture are:  Windows Hello/Microsoft Passport. These two security features together assist with end user security. Windows Hello uses a biometric user authentication rather than complex passwords. Microsoft Passport combines biometrics and a PIN to provide two- factor authentication [2, Sec. 1.1]. These features work as physical security to ensure only authorized users have access to the system  Device Guard. “Device Guard uses both hardware and software security features to lock down a device so it can run only trusted and approved applications [2, Sec. 1.1].” This security feature will assist against malicious applications and software that may attempt to target your system.  BitLocker Device Encryption. BitLocker Device Encryption give us updated features to encryption and data protection. “BitLocker is capable of encrypting entire hard drives, including both system and data drives [3].” This feature assist in keeping all sensitive data from unwanted access with its drive/data encryption and use of encryption key. Window 10’s BitLocker Device Encryption eliminates many challenges of prior versions. Upgrade Plan

The Windows upgrade plan for Tetra Shillings Accounting LLC is as follows:  Replace current Windows 8.1 Enterprise with Windows 10 Enterprise o Windows 10 Enterprise has all the features needed to meet Tetra Shillings Accounting’s needs. “Windows 10 Enterprise is the version designed for midsize and large organizations. This operating system has the most features and security options of all Windows 10 versions [2, Sec. 1.3].”  Upgrade will consists of a clean install by conducting an automated deployment of Windows 10. This will make it to where it will have minimal effect on business operations.  Automated deployment options available for this upgrade include: o Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)  Benefits of using this deployment method are quicker deployment, capabilities of having standardized desktop images and security and zero-touch deployments [2, Sec 1.5].  Disadvantage of MDT is that it requires preparation before deployment. o Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK)  Benefits of ADK is its flexibility needed for mass deployments and its various utilities that allow for administrators to configure their OS as needed [2, Sec 1.5]. ADK can also be used in conjunction with other deployment tools.  A miniscule disadvantage of using ADK would be it having unnecessary tools for your individual deployment needs but should not be a big issue when customizing and deploying.  Using these automated deployment methods will minimize user downtime. The deployment will be done after hours causing no user interruption. As part of our risk management, data will be backed up and restore will be tested prior to deployment. Update Strategies Conducting Windows updates on a regular basis is important because updates are released to fix bugs, security issues, and many other faulty entities that may harm your system and/or network. For instance, Tetra Shillings Accounting LLC has had past security breaches and ransomware attaches due to system not being properly update. These could have been avoided if system vulnerabilities would have been eliminated during routine updates. In order to keep Windows 10 updated after upgrade, it is our plan to use:  Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) o Advantages of using WSUS is that administrators can approve the updates and updates are downloaded locally without using your Internet bandwidth [2, Sec. 1.7] o The benefits of using WSUS is that administrators can evaluate which updates they can install without disrupting users’ work performance. They can also choose the right time to deploy those updates to avoid downtime in the workplace. Overview
