UDP (User Datagram Protocol) UDP, or User Datagram Protocol, is a simpler, connecƟonless transport layer protocol that provides a faster but less reliable communicaƟon channel. Unlike TCP, UDP does not establish a connecƟon before sending data and does not guarantee that the data sent will reach its desƟnaƟon. EssenƟally, UDP just sends the data ("datagrams") without seƫng up a dedicated end-to-end connecƟon. Because UDP lacks the error-checking and recovery services, it's oŌen faster than TCP and requires less computaƟonal power. This makes UDP suitable for real-Ɵme applicaƟons like video conferencing, live streaming, and online gaming, where the occasional loss of packets is acceptable but low latency is crucial. UDP is also commonly used in simple query/response type of operaƟons like DNS lookups. In these scenarios, the overhead of establishing and maintaining a TCP connecƟon can be avoided, providing a quicker interacƟon. UDP, however, is not ideal for applicaƟons that require the guaranteed delivery of packets or need the data to arrive in a specific sequence.
