16 th Edition !Start Here.pdf Pg. 1 of 4 The Solid Footing Software Files The Solid Footing software files are located in the folder Solid Footing 16e on your Desktop. In the Solid Footing 16e folder are four types of files. The following are the four types of files: PDF Book files These PDF files make-up the Solid Footing book. There is one PDF file for each chapter in the Solid Footing book. The names of these files will always be shown in blue in the book. The word CHAPTER will always be shown in capital letters. The following example is the first chapter in the Solid Footing book: CHAPTER 01 a - Stuff and Claims.pdf Excel Teaching & Project files You will use these Excel files as you read your Solid Footing book. These files also include the two Excel projects that you will work at the end of Chapter 6 and at the end of Chapter 10. The names of these files will always be shown in green in the book. The following is an example of one of these files. This Excel workbook will be utilized as you read Chapter 1. Chapter 01 b - THE CASH BUCKET (used in Chpt 1).xlsm Excel Homework Files You will use these Excel files when you work the homework problems at the end of each chapter. The names of these files will always be shown in red in the book. The following is an example of one of these files. This Excel file will be utilized when you work Problem 1-1 at the end of Chapter 1: Chapter 01 c - Problem 1-1 Forms.xls Word Xtra Problem Files These Word files are eXtra Problems that your instructor may assign. These problems are not referenced in the Solid Footing book. You will utilize these problems only if they are assigned by your instructor. Note: Solid Footing's Excel workbooks contain many Visual Basic programs. Thus you need to have installed on your computer a version of Excel that supports Visual Basic programs. All of the Excel versions listed for a Windows Computer on Pg.2 and for a Mac Computer on Pg.3 are full versions of Excel that contain the functionality needed to run Visual Basic programs. Chromebooks and iPads do not run full versions of Excel, and will not run Visual Basic programs. Thus Chromebooks and iPads will not run the Solid Footing Excel workbooks.

Excel 365 or Excel 2019 is required to run the Solid Footing Excel workbooks on a Windows Computer. You must have one of the above versions of Excel installed on your Windows computer. The online version of Excel will not run Visual Basic programs, and thus will not work with the Solid Footing Excel workbooks. Caution: Do not use any application other than the versions of Excel listed above to run the Solid Footing workbooks on a Windows computer. If you use any other application, such as OpenOffice, Google Sheets, etc., to run the Solid Footing workbooks, the software will not function correctly and your instructor will not be able to grade your projects. Important 2. To tell Excel that the Solid Footing workbooks are trusted documents and to have Excel automatically Enable Macros (enable visual basic programs) when you open a Solid Footing workbook, perform the following steps. (You only need to perform these steps once.) 1. Open your Excel application 2. Click Blank workbook ( this is only needed when Excel does not open to a blank workbook ) 3. Click File (upper left corner) 4. Click Options (last item in the list on the left) 5. Click Trust Center (last item in the list on the left) 6. Click Trust Center Settings (button on the right) 7. Click Trusted Locations (second item in the list on the left) 8. Click Add new location (button lower center) 9. Click Browse (button center right) 10. Click This PC (on left) – Double Click Desktop (under Folders) – Click Solid Footing 16e Fall 11. Click OK Click OK Click OK Click OK 12. Close Excel 3. Go to Pg 4 If Workbook Tabs are Not Visible If you are not able to see the tabs at the bottom of a Solid Footing workbook, it is because the workbook needs to be maximized. To maximize the workbook: Hold down the Ctrl key and Press the F10 key
