The topic resources have reviewed the reasons and importance of using online GCU Library
resources in your research. Using examples from the topic 2 Resources, explain why it is
important to use scholarly, peer reviewed resources retrieved from the online GCU Library vs.
a general Internet search. In those instances where you need to do a search on the Internet,
what guidelines should you follow? Why?
It is important to use scholarly peer reviewed resources rather than a general online search
because general online searches could lead you to unreliable resources that do not provide
the proper information for research. If you do need to do a search on the internet it is
important to check the source for its reliability by determining if it is biased or not. It is
important to do this because finding information that is biased could lead you to inaccurate
information.
Review the "Tools for College Success" section of Chapter 7 in the textbook
Information
Literacy.
Apply
one
of the reading strategies towards
one of the peer-reviewed articles you
chose in the Topic 1 Brainstorming Worksheet
. After reading your article, select a sentence that
supports your essay topic. Format this sentence into a direct quote and include an in-text
citation. Then, paraphrase the quote and include an in-text citation. In addition, include a
reference citation at the end of your response.
Topic:
Anti-recidivism in United States prisons
Direct Quote: “
Recidivism rates in the United States are at an all-time high with over
76.6% of offenders reoffending and returning to prison. Many of these ex-offenders
find themselves unemployed and uneducated, putting them higher at risk for
recidivism.” (Esparza, 2018, p. 2).
Paraphrase: The majority of recently released prisoners do not have access to employment
or education, which leads to them needing to reoffend to survive. (
Esparza, 2018).
