Two actions the student can take to resolve their issue would be contacting Assessment Services for
her score on the OA. Since Assessment services handles all technical issues that occur during the OA
(WGU Knowledge Center, 2023). It states “Students may appeal Performance Assessment scores and
Objective Assessment results. Students, instructor, or program mentor may submit the appeal. It is
highly recommended that students consult with their instructor about the results of their evaluation
before submitting an appeal” (WGU Assessment Policies, 2023). If the student is confused about the
retake policy they should review the Assessment Policy, which states the OA and PA can be taken
without approval from the course instructor the first time, but to retake the OA and PA it’s
mandatory to get approval from the course instructor. The best option is to schedule an
appointment with the instructor and set up a study plan for the course that will help the student
pass the OA and PA with competency (WGU Knowledge Center, 2023). If the student doesn’t know
where to find information, they should go to WGU Student Support and click on Student services
tab, there it will direct them to the student handbook. If they can’t find this information on their
own, they should schedule a meeting with their program mentor for assistance and to set goals on
how to complete next steps.
Good morning Mr. Smith,
I am emailing you regarding not passing the OA and PA. To be completely honest, I was overwhelmed
while taking the OA. There was a 30-minute delay due to technical issues, which put me in a bad space
mentally while taking the exam. Therefore, I believe I did not do a good job due to the technical issues. I
was also feeling discouraged due to my feedback on the PA and having to meet with the instructor
before submitting the essay again. But, after reevaluating the situation, I realized I did not review all the
course work due to feeling overwhelmed. I plan on reaching out to my instructor to voice my concerns
about the technical issues I experienced before taking my exam. Since I do not agree with my OA score, I
am also planning on reaching out to Assessment Services to appeal my score. I also would like more
understanding on the PA resubmittal requirements. I do not know how to access the student handbook,
are you able to send me the link or information on how to get there?
Lastly, since I did not completely review all course information, I am planning on going over everything in
a timely manner, so I don’t get overwhelmed. I believe if I set time to successfully review this
information, I will be able to retain important information and pass the OA the second go around. For
the PA, I will review the rubric for the tasks, and see what information was missed and make sure I
implement them in the updated essays.
Thank you,
Jessica Patton
