SECTION TWO: Product Features and Benefits
Purpose of Section:
Each student will be required to deliver an individual product sales pitch while
selling the benefits, not just the features, of the product selected above. This section will give you a
framework for your final product pitch.
Before you begin this section, conduct a textbook review:
Review the Sales Dialogue in Exhibit 6.4, pages 139-140
Review Learning Objectives 6.3-6.6, pages 138-146
Step 1:
Features and Benefit.
Using the table below, make a list under “Features” column. Write
everything the product offers. You can add lines to the table as necessary. Then, list all the corresponding
“Benefits” in the Benefits column. Remember, benefits showcase WHY that particular feature is
important and tells the customer HOW this product will solve a problem they may have. For example, a
benefit might be saving the customer time…BUT it is your job to expand on that benefit and tell them
HOW the product will save them time. What does that feature mean for them? It might mean different
things for different types of customers.
**If you find it tricky, add the words ‘which means that…’ to the end of your feature, and then
complete the sentence. If a certain feature doesn’t mean anything to the customer, then it’s not
really worth bothering them about, is it?
FOR EXAMPLE: If a feature of the product is that the product is cordless
, state how this will help the
potential customer. Do they have kids? Then it is a safety benefit…helps keep their kids safe from
tripping while allowing you to chat and make dinner. Does their job require them to move around a lot?
Then this product allows the customer to be more efficient and multitask. Connect the dots for the
customer.
