Research the three types of firewalls available to corporations and answer the questions below. Be sure
to cite your sources.
1.
Describe each type of firewall.
Packet Filtering- Examines each packet of data and decides to accept or deny them based on rules
within the firewall.
Stateful Firewalls- Maintain the active connections. Decision is based on context of the traffic that is
sent. This type of firewall is considered the most secure.
Proxy Firewall- This is an intermediary firewall, meaning this is between the users and server. This
type inspects and filters traffic at a high level. This firewall is also known as the Application-Level
Gateway.
2.
Determine which types can reside on a server (as opposed to a networking appliance).
Due to the higher level of security. The proxy firewall will be the most considering the deployment on a
server.
3.
Of the server-supported firewalls, choose which types of firewalls are best for your organization.
Explain.
What are the best locations for these firewalls? Why?
Firewalls should be part of your network architecture. This means you would like to have it in a
secured location such as your servers. This location should maintain locked and only individuals who
have a need-to-know part of the daily duties should have access to this room.
4.
As an example, research and describe the 'standard' ingress/egress rules appropriate for the File
and Print Services server role.
File and printer should have the minimum, to allow ingress and egress rules. This would allow
File server be sharing the information while the other should be allowing a certain amount of
traffic to the system.
