Report
The breach that I found from the website happened at Warren General Hospital a healthcare provider on November 9, 2023, this breach affected 168,921 the incident was due to hacking/IT incident. The location of the breach was in the network server. A few ways the healthcare industry can prevent data breaches include. 1. Security risk in IT infrastructure- cyber risk assessments and security evaluations should be performed at least once a year. This can help show the vulnerabilities, security gaps and outdated policies. 2. Maintain HIPAA compliance- healthcare organizations can use HIPAA regulations as a road map to improve data privacy. 3. Implement network segmentation- this would make it extremely difficult for a hacker to jump from one subnetwork to another. 4. Enforcement of cybersecurity training and education- some practices include how to create secure passwords, safe internet browsing, securing physical devices and never connecting to an unsecured Wi-Fi network. 5. Use real time monitoring- using this information healthcare companies can monitor unauthorized access, track suspicious network activity, and identify security risks before any damage can be done. 6. Hire an IT team- a dedicated IT team can significantly help prevent data breaches. ( How the Healthcare Industry Can Prevent Data Breaches 2023) ● Describe a situation in which you have witnessed a possible security breach in the workplace. What safeguard would you implement to correct this issue? Where I work, we still use paper charts, these are always laying open on desks where anyone can take a picture of the information within. While this is not a cyber security issue it is still a security issue, I will not leave a chart on my desk while I am with a patient. I will leave it in the “bin” which is on the wall out of sight of those walking passed the door. I have on multiple occasions asked when we will employ an EMR. I think this will give less access to those who walk past the desks. It is also a good idea to have the privacy screens on the computers, this will help with prying eyes looking to see who the next patient is or other information that is not for them to see.
