An organization that I chose that illustrates an impact on human behavior would be a social media platform, Facebook. The social media platform is used by billions of individuals all over the world. According to an article posted on the webpage, LinkedIn, Social Media: Impact on human behavior and society .” “Social media can add creativity to our thinking as people can share their views and work with others. It allows people to explore and become actively involved without the fear or rejection.” (Jain, 2021) Facebook encourages behaviors by allowing individuals to connect, engage, and interact with other individuals. Facebook sends off notifications which in terms will allow others to engage more. Notifications that are sent could be as little as reminding someone of someone’s birthday or even an event that is happening near the area in which one lives. Facebook also offers the opportunity to like, comment, and share others posts. With the share feature on this platform, it is easy to spread content, which could be entertaining and informational, that could be labeled as a huge hit and reach millions of viewers. Within the like and comment aspect, it allows individuals to gain a self-validation of the content they post. Facebook not only encourages behavior, but can also discourage it at the same time. The social media platform does not condemn negative and harmful behaviors. Facebook offers a way to report posts and user profiles that go against certain guidelines. It has a strict guideline for content that removes or blocks posts that are inappropriate and or provides fake news. Lastly, Facebook offers a way for the individuals to set things to private, such as their posts, page, and anything on their page. Reverting back to how Facebook encourages certain behaviors, the social media platform impacts human behavior more towards an ego approach. With the likes, shares, and comments, it
