ICT 302 Content Plan Sarah Redmon, Nathan Shelton, and Nicholas Wadley Summary of Problem Climate change is an issue that is getting worse every year. This issue has been causing many problems and putting heavy burdens on society everywhere in the world, such as worsening drought and increasing temperatures that result in an unsuitable living environment. The human-centered problem, the politicization of climate change in America, is a matter to be taken seriously. Climate change itself is a big issue that should be dealt with; however, the politicization of climate change is an even bigger deal in the short term and is an issue that can be easily controlled and avoided. Politicization can affect global relations and can stop time- sensitive goals from being reached, like dealing with climate change. Relief from the politicization of climate change can help to lessen climate change and result in a stronger belief in climate change overall . Summary of Solution The ICT-based solution to this human-centered problem is an online course whose goal is to have American citizens gain better trust in science and put all political matters away from a critical issue like climate change. Resources shared in this online course should be unbiased and not politicized to relieve the current issue of mixing politics into climate change discussions. It should be noted that this course is government-run, and the decision to make it required or recommended for citizens is up to the states themselves. This solution should be extremely
rewarding for everyone who takes up the opportunity, both in a physical sense (e.g., reduced costs of energy bills) and a mental sense (e.g., more understanding of climate change .( Web Content Needs To educate citizens on climate change and depoliticize the issue, you guys must create a website that communicates information about the issue in a non-partisan manner. This will ensure the users receive instruction that will not attack their political values. First, there needs to be a home page that tells “students” what our site is about and what they will learn. This will be helpful because users can get a first impression of the course before they commit to it. Furthermore, the site must contain 5 different modules that contain a variety of topics ( Note: The modules must be listed in order from one to five). The first course should include general information on climate change (i.e., what it is, the causes, etc.), and tell them why it is such a major issue. This content supports our ICT-based solution because it will teach users the basics of the global crisis. The second module should be a comparison of how Republicans and Democrats view climate change. This content would be helpful because it will educate users on how different political parties feel about the issue and point out any political biases that can corrupt opinions . The third module should talk about non-political reasons why people may not believe in climate change (i.e., naïve realism, cognitive dissonance, etc.). Not only would this section take the focus away from politics, but it would make users reflect and potentially realize why they have not believed in the global issue this whole time. Adding a part like this to the site would also provide more variety to the overall course as well. The fourth module should talk about how
climate change is impacting Americans since they were the target stakeholders of our Needs/Assessment proposal. There also needs to be information detailing how different regions of the country are impacted. This section would help our ICT-based solution because it provides relevant facts that our audience would have to acknowledge and think about moving forward . The last module should be a call to action for our users to put aside their political beliefs and advocate for the federal government to help prevent climate change, in addition to their civic responsibilities (i.e., buying electric cars, advocating for the discontinuation of deforestation, etc.). This will be helpful for our site because it will force users to act in trying to prevent the current global crisis . Additional Needs Each module must have an external links page so users can find information related to the topic they are learning about. This would also be helpful to our solution because those extra articles could give “students” more reasons why they should believe/advocate for climate change, and why it should be depoliticized. Every section also needs a reference page to ensure the credibility of our site. Lastly, after each module is completed there needs to be a sort of comment feature that will allow users to talk about what they learned from the section. This will help our ICT-based solution because it will give the creators feedback on what we should potentially add to each module . Web Content Expectations Management : The quality of the content presented within the 5 modules should be from
