What is the purpose of the assessment tool? Is the purpose clear to
someone reading it for the first time? Explain your rationale with
support from text related to assessment.
-
The purpose of the assessment tool is to ensure that the
students have made progress towards the objective and towards
the mastery of all the skills needed in order to get to the end
goal when everything is put together to play an entire game of
tennis. I believe the purpose is clear to someone reading it for
the first time because it explains very thoroughly what is
expected from the students and it also provides the steps on how
they will be tested and assessed in order for them to achieve
mastery. It also provides how the benchmark assessment is
supposed to show their skills based on the multiple different
tasks that they have to present to the teacher one-on-one, and
with other students as well to ensure that they are able to work
as a team and present the skills needed with others as well.
It
also explains why the skills are needed in order to move forward
with the rest of the lesson because at the end of it all, they are
going to have to put everything they learned together in order to
play an entire game of tennis smoothly, and without the mastery
of the skills needed, they will already be behind and will not be
able to progress forward. This is a good reason as to why the
one-on-one benchmark is essential and extremely helpful for the
teachers to see in real-time if the student is able to move
forward or not. It is stated in the text that it is important to
remember the goals that help you master the overall skill
because it allows us to again focus on the bigger picture at hand.

What kind of knowledge, skills, and dispositions does the
assessment tool assess?
-
The kind of knowledge, skills, and dispositions that the
assessment tool assesses would include if they are able to listen
to instructions and apply them to the physical action needed to
participate in a game of tennis. It also assesses their abilities to
work with one another coherently because, without teamwork, a
game of tennis is not possible. It will also assess the ability of the
students to apply their newly learned skills to different sports as
well because they are common skills that can be used
throughout.
3.
From your knowledge, how does the objectives of the unit/lesson
match the assessment?
-
From my knowledge, the objective of the unit and lesson does
match the assessment because in order to be able to play an
entire game of tennis which is the overall end goal of the unit,
there are steps and skills that need to be learned and mastered
before the student can progress forward. The objective of the
lesson plan though, when broken down, is for the students to
learn and practice hand and body movements, which include
backhand stroke, forearm stroke, and wall ball, which when
mastered can be used to put together and play an entire game of
tennis. Without the mastery of those certain skills, being able to
play a game of tennis is almost impossible, therefore the
objectives of each lesson within the unit are essential and the
assessment within each lesson ensures that those skills are
mastered in order for the student to move on throughout the
unit.

What do you think your students might know about the
topic/content of this assessment beyond what is actually assessed
here?
-
I believe that the students would know a lot about the topic and
content of this assessment beyond what is actually assessed
here including the basics of tennis, and how the game works so it
can help them perform the skills being asked of them because it
is such a well-known sport, they are able to mimic some skills, or
it also makes the skills they are learning, easier to learn because
they have some form of background knowledge on the sport and
skills. I also believe that they could know how to do certain skills
that are being asked of them because they are common skills
that are used in multiple different sports, so if there is a chance
that they are interested or have played another sport even if it is
just for fun, learning the skill will be easier due to the familiarity
and background knowledge on the assessment and skills at
hand.
