Ashley Tinsley Assignment Unit 3: The customer service positions are those that experience the highest turnover at Mia’s Muffins. As a result, she wants to know the primary sources for advertising the customer service position, as well as the recruitment message (e.g., open, or targeted). Please provide Mia rationale for your choices. Some of the most prominent ways of advertising are classified advertisements, display ads, banner ads, radio, television, and streaming video ads. Today, social media and online ads for jobs are very popular. There are sites like LinkedIn that allow you to connect with candidates and learn a lot about them from their profiles on the site. You can select skills you are looking for or leave it open for a more diverse applicant field. There are sometimes fees associated with those, but it is just like fees for running commercials or renting billboards. It could also be beneficial to have the job description at the location so patrons can see it and tell a friend or help spread the word Mia’s is hiring. Word of mouth advertising is always a great way to save money but still let the community know you are looking for a new employee. A targeted recruitment message would match people of a particular audience with a recruitment message. “To develop a targeted message, an organization can use principles from marketing research” (Judge et al, 2021, pg. 99). With a targeted message Mia’s could use wording that is specific to the customer service representative they are wanting to hire. Using a targeted approach will help Mia to narrow the candidates to those who meet specific criteria. “With an open recruitment approach, organizations cast a wide net to identify potential applicants for specific job openings” (Judge et al, 2021, pg. 99). Using an open message helps to ensure that a diverse range of applicants can apply and there is a fair shot at being considered.
Ashley Tinsley The downside to an open recruitment approach is there may be too many applicants that apply for the position, and it can be expensive and time consuming to screen them. There are pros and cons to each approach. With a targeted message, Mia’s may have better luck finding someone qualified and a good fit for the position that would decrease turn over with the employees. This approach could also save time and money in regard to the review process. On the other hand, if Mia’s is having a hard time finding applicants an open recruitment message would widen the applicant pool and give them more options.
