An enterprise resource planning system (ERP) is a great way to improve your business and reach
business strategies and goals faster. Measuring, managing, improving, and sustaining an ERP are key implementation and success. Measuring is easy once the key performance indicators a business wants to improve are established. Grant (2022) indicates the importance of gauging your bottom line before the ERP is
installed. A base measure might be gross profit according to Grant (2022). This gives a business
one sign the ERP is working or not.
Managing the value of an EPR is achieved with ongoing training and support states, Markgraf (n.d.). The system needs an administrator to ensure employees inputting the data have access, enter data correctly, or enter missing data so reporting is accurate according to Markgraf (n.d.). An ERP needs to constantly evolve because businesses constantly evolve. According to Markgraf (n.d.), companies may not include all operations or they might want to add new initiatives and goals. This requires continual improvement of the ERP to meet demands of the company, but more importantly the customer. Security is on the top of any companies mind to make sure their data is not vulnerable to hackers.
One way to sustain an ERP is to stay on top of security threats. “
The company's own operating systems, networks and work stations have to provide a secure environment for the ERP databases that may contain sensitive data as well as personal or private information of employees and customers,” Markgraf (n.d.). References
