Task 4:
Introduction
Wells International College (WIC), has found the necessity of creating a Server Virtualization, which
is the most popular power-saving strategy for data centres. The process involves replacing physical
server with virtual servers, controlled by hypervisor software running on fewer physical server.
Project Background:
Please give project background
Related factor to organization:
Server virtualization will low the energy consumption of Well International College (WIC), but there
are other savings as well. Running fewer servers means less space is needed in data centres. With less hardware the support burden for monitoring will also be reduced, there will be fewer servers to maintain, requiring less technicians
Scope and Objectives
A detailed design and project management for Wells International College.
Physical to virtual migration process definition.
Six (6) physical to virtual server migration to virtual
Reconfigure e assure the backup operation
Testing all migrated servers
Information gathering plan and approach
Gathering Method and Approach
The information gathering plan will involve the observation of how the current server is performing in relation to the energy consumption and how it changes the college’s structure. The method is indicated in this case to eliminate any incorrect impressions or assumptions that might have been obtained. The study of existing organization documents will also be executed in a way to understand
numerically the impact of the physical server in the energy consumption. The project will be conducted according com the approach below:
Gathering information about current server.
Implementing virtual server.
Monitoring operational system.
Information repository
A data warehousing solution will be implemented to store all the sources and enable all the personal to access the date base, produce reports and perform analyses while the server virtualization process is being implemented.
Feasibility studies
Technical
The current server of Wells International College contains 1 server hack with 6 servers. Each server contains
a single operational system. After online research, there were three choices for software capable of running server virtualization in the college, the specification of each server is listed below.

Operational
In operational terms Wells international College is expecting to use only 1 member of its IT staff to manage the virtual servers. The college is also aiming to make changes in its structure when the physical servers were removed. The school is looking to implement a software that does not cost over
AU$ 10.000,00.
A Steady State Process Migration plan is also expecting, this requirement will deal mainly with disaster
recovery, guaranteeing that no type of data will be lost during the migration process.
Economical
Economically WIC wants mainly reducing its energy consumption cost. Other reduction will also be possible, such as:
Hardware and operating cost by 50%
Reduce server cost
Reduce Desktop cost
Manpower resource.
