“Law enforcement performs an essential role in achieving our nation’s cyber security objectives by investigating a wide range of cyber crimes, from theft and fraud to child exploitation, and apprehending and prosecuting those responsible. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) works with other federal agencies to conduct high-impact criminal investigations to disrupt and defeat cyber criminals, prioritize the recruitment and training of technical experts, develop standardized methods, and broadly share cyber response best practices and tools. Criminal investigators and network security experts with deep understanding of the technologies malicious actors are using and the specific vulnerabilities they are targeting work to effectively respond to and investigate cyber incidents.” (Cisa.gov, 2022) Law enforcement plays a bigger role than most people may think and every day there are new challenges that affect our nations security. With technology becoming more sophisticated criminals are coming up with more and more ways to commit these crimes and its important that law enforcement stay trained and up to date on the latest computer forensics to help them identify the crime being committed, investigate them completely and locate and prosecute the offenders. Every day our lives become more and more digital and it becomes easier for people to pretend to be someone or something that they are not, and its important to figure out how to identify and locate the offender before it gets out of hand.
