Message to The Public:
It is with great honor to be able to represent a company such as Gauze and Effect. Today,
I will present to you a message on Ethics and what it means to this company by using our most
recent business decision as an example. As you all should know, Gauze and Effect is a company
dedicated to creating a healthy and thriving work environment for its customers and its
establishment. Recently, we have been given the opportunity to collaborate in a business
partnership with Facebook but we declined and decided no partnership with Facebook was the
best decision.
This decision was based on Facebook’s recent business conflicts. Facebook users have
had their information leaked to other companies for money or simply at will due to other
companies. This information included personal details about its users such as their addresses,
banking information, political preferences ect (Turtle, 2018). Numerous instances have occurred
where Facebook has fallen for this typeof scandal and as a result has lost valuables such as
shares in other companies, and even customers.
Which leads to the question: Is it ok for Facebook to exploit their user’s data?
This specific situation can cause harm or damage to an individual because facebook users
can get upset that their personal information is out there, therefore ruining the company by
having no more trust in it. This causes harm to multiple groups of individuals also because many
individuals prefer to keep their information to themselves for very specific reasons such as
safety.
In this circumstance, consideration for justice and rights needs to go to the users of
Facebook since they were unaware this was happening and that their rights were being violated.I
believe
Facebook’s
business
problems
are
a
result
of
consequentialism.
According to
CommunicationScience in “
Consequentialism & Utilitarianism part 1
”
, consequentialism is
when the outcome of what has been done decides whether or not your actions were good or
bad”(CommuncationScience, 2017). As Facebook kept making morally wrong decisions, their
consequences worsened in the form of losing customers, money, public outrage, and missed
business opportunities from companies taking away their shares. Also based on their lack of
honesty with their customers about what was being done with their information, from the start,
they kept repeating the same big scandals that caused them to lose so much as a company.
Originally this message was written to make people more aware of this situation but this
message is much more than that. This message is to inspire the people to think more carefully on
what they support.
Thank you all for your time today.
