Unit 6 – Create Risks and Mitigation Measures for a Project Scenario Attri Bezbaruah Harrisburg University of Science & Technology PMGT 530: Risk Procurement and Contracts Dr. Dan Thoman December 10 th , 2023
Scenario For Advanced Issues in Risk Management Risk 1 Risk: Time Constraint This project has a large scope which involves building a brand-new application unique to all five theme parks and multiple goals for what the application is capable of. One of the key stakeholders of the project, CIO of the company wants it launched by Mother’s Day, May 11 th as it one of the most successful days for theme parks. The project was proposed late February which makes the project timeline approximately 2 and half months long. This gives me a very short timeline to finish a project that will require software development, prototype testing, debugging, user friendly interface, and integration. Risk Category: Schedule Risk Mitigation Measure: - Negotiate a new deadline for project launch with the key stakeholders including CIO, senior staff at all 5 parks, senior management of recommended firm. - Request additional resource within the company from stakeholders to complete all project activities by the deliverable deadlines and the scheduled launch date of application. - Request additional budget to hire more project members both internally and externally and help complete all project activities within schedule timeline and quality expectation. - Negotiate the size of the project scope to a reasonable scope that can be done within the deadline proposed by the stakeholders and sponsors.
Risk 2 Risk: Customer Satisfaction Since the scope of the project is large and the deadline for submission is sooner, there is a higher risk of short comings which could lead to experience dissatisfaction. The goal is to create a mobile app that customers can use for directions around the park with a detailed map display. The app must also provide real time wait in line for the rides and consider crowd density when giving directions. Some other features to consider for the app would be wifi and GPS compatibility, compatible with IOS and Android along with its updates and finally, the app should not have any bugs that could cause lag or other functioning issues. Risk Category: Customer Satisfaction Risk Mitigation Measure: - A customer feedback committee must be created to provide consistent feedback from the end users throughout the development process. This could be done with customer survey or app store rating customers themselves to learn more about the product performance. - Hire project members outside of the small firm recommended who are experienced with app development for navigation and theme parks. - Negotiate a smaller scope with project sponsor and stakeholder such as app that can only provide ride wait time or direction around park without real time for the first release. The other features can be slowly introduced during continuous app update and improvement. This could also be used to propose features such as early check in to restaurants and rides to avoid wait time. - Release a beta version of app before release date to gain user end feedback. Customers will be requested to use the app to gauge app performance and improve as necessary.

Risk 3 Risk: Security and Privacy Concerns In order for the app to successfully work, users have to consent to us collecting and processing data at all times such as current location, personal information and more. This could raise security and privacy concerns by the theme park owners and customers. There are also regulations placed by app stores that must be met for approval. Unauthorized access to data can lead to customers being completely vulnerable and would lose faith on the theme parks. This could also affect the reputation of the IT organization and affect client relations. Risk Category: Operational Risk Mitigation Measure: - Hire team members outside of small firm that specialize in creating apps with high privacy and security protection measures to guard user’s information. - Created an encrypted server that host all customer data. This server will be highly protected using firewall configuration, strong authentication system, access control or encrypt the data. - Incorporate privacy and security as key part of app design early into the project. This would include conducting research on regulations, privacy impact assessment, current data security practices and more. - Develop an incident response plan for in case there is a security breach through the app. Additionally, implement regular testing of app to assess any security breach and create a dedicated team responsible for responding to any security incidents instantly.
