Assignment 1 John Caldwell ISSC 452 American Military University 5 September 2023
With regards to today’s meeting on proposed budget cuts to the IT department, the reduction of cuts to the IT department would be detrimental to this companies’ success. The idea of a forty percent cut to the budget could undermine the security of this company’s network. Understanding that the need for budget cuts is for the continuous sustainment of the company. In this day and technological age, it is imperative to not only maintain the security of the network, but to look for means to improve its security. The lack of attacks in the last few months does not indicate a strength in the security of our system. The level of security is currently running at peak performance. This is due to the diligence of the IT department consistently looking for better ways to protect the company’s confidential data. This data encompasses all our customer’s data, too. With the rapidly ever-changing viruses, malware, ransomware, and other means of intrusion, constant updating and monitoring is a must (Alahmari, et all, 2020). The lack of training could open a door that would allow for an attack to happen (Hasan, et all, 2021). As the weakest link in all systems is the human factor, providing proper training to employees as to the latest cyber security threats will reduce the risk of unauthorized access to our fragile network. The IT department requires constant training to provide the best security for all the companies’ assets. I strongly urge you to reconsider the budget cut to the IT
