2 Ethical Standards Question a Judging based on retributive justice , I would recommend sentencing the young juvenile to five years in prison. Judging based on utilitarian justice , I would recommend sentencing the young juvenile to one year in prison. Judging based on restorative justice , I would recommend sentencing the young juvenile to two years in prison, alongside a likelihood of paroling the community after a year. Retributive justice is a criminal justice system that focuses solely on punishment rather than deterring future crimes or reforming offenders. In general, retributive justice is based on the principle that the severity of the sentence should be proportional to the severity of the crime committed. It is an-eye-for-an-eye system. In a retributive system, a criminal must suffer pain or a loss proportional to what his/her action(s) made the victim suffer (Pollock, 2016, pg 64). Retributive justice does not care about anything but punishment; hence, I recommend sentencing the young juvenile to five years in prison. Utilitarianism is based on the standard of doing what is best for a maximum number of people. Considering the young juvenile has a mother to take care of, I am recommending sentencing him to just one year in prison because this will make more people happy. Restorative justice is based on the standard of fixing the damage that was done. I am recommending sentencing the young juvenile to two years in prison with a community parole
