In Luisa's case, immigration law presented a hurdle. Luisa's major goal was to bring her younger son from
Columbia. Luisa must demonstrate that she can financially raise her kid without government assistance in order to sponsor him. According to the facility's requirements, she must also apply for any available help in order for the family to continue residing in the shelter. This exacerbated her problems because, after leaving her abusive spouse, she is now unable to support herself and her children without government assistance. Luisa has no source of income because her husband forbids her from working. Luisa is considering returning to her abusive husband because she really wants to be with her son. The local shelter laws and immigration regulations have an impact on Luisa's life, her objectives, and the future of her kids. Resources offered to customers who are immigrants will be impacted by federal immigration policies.
The Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), a federally financed program through The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, is one policy pertinent to Luisa's case. FVPSA funds many services in many communities with the objective of assisting immigrants and children, particularly those who are victims of domestic violence. FVPSA contains no immigration restrictions, and Health and Human Services has not identified FVPSA funds as a federal public benefit program requiring verification of immigration status. Louisa and her children will benefit from this because their visas have expired.
The ability to execute the policy both broadly and especially for the client in the case study. As an immigrant, Luisa fits the criterion as a "battered alien." When an immigrant matches the description of a "battered alien," as specified in the Welfare Reform Act of 1996, he or she is entitled for benefits as a "qualified alien." She is eligible for domestic violence services such as short-term shelter or housing help through FVPSA-funded programs, as well as TANF with no immigrant restrictions.
