Is it possible to eliminate the Boko Haram? The Boko Hraam is a Nigeria based terrorist group that we have gained support from the well-known group al-Qaeda. This group has constructed hundreds of attacks that have resulted in the in the death and injury of thousands of people. The results of this group have pushed their name past the well-known group ISIS which is the more well-known group when it comes to terrorists. During the fiscal year 2014 they were known as the deadliest terrorist group in the world. The group set out to overthrow the Nigerian government due to their backing from the western world. They are another terrorist group that is not ok with western civilization moving in on their world and will do everything in their power to stop it. The group has both local and non-state actors providing support to them. If we are going to combat groups like this we as a country are going to need to come up with a modern counterterrorism strategy to fight the modern terrorist, enhance our intelligence gathering methods, have the ability to share intelligence between domestic and international partners, stop radicalization within the United States, reduce and eventually eliminating all financing to terrorist organizations, create new alliances with foreign countries, and develop partnerships within our own communities in order to successfully prevent domestic terrorism. A countries stability and their security are all crucial and need to be protected by effective
counterterrorism methods. Counterterrorism is a very complicated thing to conduct and to do so we need to gain and understanding on what terrorism is described as. Terrorism is an unlawful use of acts of violence or utilizing intimidation techniques against civilian personnel with the goal of achieving political goals or instilling fear and panic in others. The world has seen the effects of both domestic and international terrorism throughout all of time. The most well-known
terrorist attack on the United States was the deadly attack of September 11, 2001, where terrorist hijacked planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon. The
results of these attacks created widespread panic and fear throughout the country almost instantly. But it also brought together the citizens of our country and with that came National Strategies to combat terrorist. The world has had methods to combat terrorism but as the terrorists evolve so must our methods. Our leaders need to consider new solutions over the traditional military methods and more broad strategic policies. Some effective policies to consider would be information warfare, and public diplomacy. If we are to fight a war against ideology, we need to have policies that have information on operations that have the right tactical
and operational objectives. A war on ideologies would help the United States and our allies gain the ability to cripple organizations like Al-Qaeda, ISS, and Boko Haram. This must be done strategically and as a combined team if we are going to pish people away from radicalizing and pushing them back to true religious beliefs not those of extremists. Our country needs to increase
the collection of information, monitoring of personnel, and increasing our methods to combat enemy personnel. In today’s world we need personnel that have the ability to collect intelligence off of the more common data sharing networks like social media platforms. Terrorists are known to recruit and show their attacks over social media platforms. We need more personnel trained to gather intelligence across the internet and be able to accurately report their findings. State, local, and federal law enforcement agencies need to work together by having the ability to closely monitor potential threats and send Intel to neighboring organizations. Fusion cells were already created and serve as a great tool for government agencies to transfer intelligence to one another and monitor personnel. Sometimes the best defensive of terrorism is going on the offensive. The United States need to have the ability to conduct more offensive operations in order to eliminate terrorist groups at the source. By doing this we will be able to prevent groups from growing and gaining more influence. Once inteliigence is gathered on terrorist network locations the United
States will need to conduct targeted strikes against these groups and send personnel to these locations to ensure the threat is eliminated. By crippling the organization this will make sure they
can no longer work, and it will show other terrorist organizations that our country will not allow these actions to continue. Cyber intelligence cells will seek out and eliminate cyberterrorism and terrorist groups from having the ability to use social networks to push out their word and their propaganda. The United States will also need to continue to strengthen our borders, increase border personnel and increase our ability to vet personnel finding and stopping potential terrorists. Forner President bush believed in well-coordinated air strikes against terrorist cells (Geltzer, J. Alexander). In order to eliminate terrorism, we will need to enhance our intelligence gathering skills and our means to disseminating that intelligence. We will put together a stronger National Counterterrorism Center that is aimed at using the newest intelligence gathering methods while recruiting the top analysts across the country. We will combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as well as international partners for gathering the most up to date intelligence on radicalists and terrorist organizations. From there we will create a system for disseminating information out to the communities so we can empower our local population. By empowering people with this knowledge, we will create stronger communities that will look out for terrorist threats and report suspicious activities through the proper channels. We will continue to build on our relationship with our allies by ensuring we share the most up to date intelligence gathering techniques with them as well as any relevant information we have gathered. By empowering the local communities, we will be able to put in an effort to stop radicalization within our country. Radicalizations stems from minds that are easily influenced by international terrorist groups or in domestic terrorists’ case they are radicalized by their swayed opinions of our
