Is war driving legal? Research the legality of war driving in your home state. Is it considered illegal?
Or is the law a gray area? Is it an ethical issue? Do you think war driving should be legal or illegal? What should the penalties be? Defend your position.
Hello professor and class, What I found researching is that war driving in the state of Arizona is not illegal until it involves exploiting weak or insecure networks to gain data or private information. Some of the cyber-crime
laws in Arizona are ARS 13-2316 which covers computer tampering, ARS 13-2316.01which is unlawful possession of an access device, and ARS 13-2316.02 which makes it illegal to share confidential security information about a computer or network (Coolidge, n.d.). Breaking any 3 of these laws is a felony and the perpetrator faces jail time. War driving when done ethically helps build digital maps, even Google street view involved some war driving to get their information. I think war driving should remain legal since it is still used ethically in most cases and there are cyber laws in place that thwart hackers from using the war driving to steal information. I think the best solution to war driving exposing these vulnerable networks is to educate the public on securing their networks by setting strong passwords, using multi-factor authentication, using up-to-date firmware, having hidden SSID’s, and using encryption/decryption software.
