Question 1
Looking at the response vehicles (pictured above), explain two options you have in order to abide
by the Move Over law.
To abide by the Move Over law in the picture, when approaching a maintenance
truck or road work,
move to the adjacent lane/change lanes
to give the site
space/safety, and
slow down
to also be safe.
Question 2
Looking at the misty rain and fog (pictured above), explain at least two defensive driving techniques
you would utilize to adjust your driving and lower your risk.
Some defensive driving techniques i could use to lower my risk in driving in a
setting like the picture would be to
drive slowly
(because of any wet/slippery/moist
roads from the mist),
turn on my low beams
to help navigate through any thick fog,
increase my following distance
between cars to be safe when stopping, and to
scan
and
check my blindspots
repeatedly to be aware of my surroundings and safety.
Question 3
When you learned about the Highway Transportation system you learned about 6 different types of
people as roadway users. Choose 3 and explain a safe driving skill response for each.
-
Passengers
. When driving I would make sure my passengers understand my
boundaries and acknowledge I need to focus for our safety.
-
Motorcyclist
. When driving I would give them extra space/following distance,
since they can quickly maneuver and get into my blindspot, and they have a
shorter stopping distance.
-
Road Workers
. When driving past a road work i would slow down and try to
keep as much distance as not to disrupt their work or risk anyone's safety.
Question 4
Identify 3 distractions for young drivers and explain how you plan to minimize these distractions.
1.
Phones
- texting while driving would most likely put a driver's safety at risk, so
they can put it on Do Not Disturb/Driving Mode and store it in the glove
compartment or center console to prevent easy reach.
2.
Friends
- when driving with friends the driver might also want to engage with
the passengers and the passengers might be distracting, so the driver should
make sure they wear their seatbelts and understand one is driving and how you
need to focus for all of the vehicle’s safety.
3.
Any other distractions that might disrupt the drivers focus like
music or eating
,
because when behind the wheel, one should
only
be driving.
