[List steps in each category to help increase language and literacy development in infants and toddlers.] Steps Instructions for Lesson Include approximate time for each activity. This is the attention grabber part of the lesson. I will do a small group activity and have a 4 piece realistic insect life cycle model. This would include Eggs, caterpillars(larva) on a leaf, a chrysalis(pupa), and a butterfly. Put caterpillars in the butterfly garden. Ask questions as you hand out the 4 piece activity. As the caterpillars are in the butterfly garden ask children what they think will happen Steps for Direct Instruction As you are in a small group, show what each piece is: egg, caterpillar Ask which one comes first stage

This is the “You Do” part of the lesson. I would have a puzzle of butterfly metamorphosis. So that the children can have independent learning. I would have life size insects in the sand and water table for the children to play with independently. I would have insects and magnifying glasses in the science center. Observe and assess the children through play. Closure Closure is considered the part of the lesson where the teacher determines what worked, what didn’t work, and ● I will reflect on what I could do in the dramatic play area with insect life to extend learning with children I will ask them what does a scientist do when they catch a butterfly.
