1. I was not familiar with most of the terms. The only ones I knew were competence vs. performance, acquisition vs. learning, and scaffolding. I remember when I was in high school my Spanish teacher would mention these. 2. I do think that the distinction is clear and makes sense to me. 3. I can’t remember ever encountering any teaching strategies like that. 4. I would describe it as the ability to use language in a way that is considered correct in different settings. 5. I have heard it used before. During my freshman year of high school, my Spanish teacher explained the difference to the class. 6. My book usually gives pictures as visuals, and also uses certain themes to group new vocabulary words. 7. Comprehensible input is a teaching technique. Comprehensible input allows students to kind of figure things out on their own using background or context provided by a teacher. 8. Krashen believes that input is a necessary and sufficient condition for language acquisition. Swain believes that it is necessary, but not sufficient. 9. ZPD is the space between what a language learner can do on their own without any help or guidance and what they can do with guidance or help from others. I had not heard of it before reading this. 10. Scaffolding provides support to a learner and helps them develop in a language to get them to the next level. 11. i + 1 is a theory that says language learning is most effective when you meet a learner’s current level and then add another level to that. 12. I think the goals are reachable and they seem like they would be effective. 13. This text was pretty difficult to read because there was a lot of information that was very new to me, but I still thought it was pretty interesting to read.
