Critical Assignment 1: Instructional Objectives and Test Construction Grade Level: __2 nd Grade__________________________ Subject: ____ English Language Development ____________________________ Unit Title: ____”Last Man Standing”_____________________________ Purpose of this Unit: The purpose of this unit is for English Language learners students to be able to challenge their basic English language skills by listening, speaking, reading and writing. The activity will also encourage peer learning and also allowing students to build up their vocabulary and thinking speed. Sunshine State Standards: ELD.K12.ELL.LA.1 English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts. ELD.K12.ELL.SI.1 English language learners communicate for social and instructional purposes within the school setting. Accommodations: Test accommodations that would allow my students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, or limited English-language ability to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a testing situation would be: 1. To offer breaks and extended time so that the students will have more time to focus and to be able to take a break to clear their minds and rest their eyes.
2. Offer both audio and braille for students who are visually impaired to be able to comfortably take a test. 3. Offer a sign language version of the test for students who have hearing impairments. 4. Allow responses given through computer for students who may be nonverbal. 5. Offer directions of a test in a student's native language and also in English to aid and guide English language learners students to the right paths. Lesson’s Objectives: After completing this unit, the student should be able to … 1. Expand their English vocabulary from peers. 2. Quickly process words of the English language. 3. Identify objects such as a person, place, or a thing in English. 4. To challenge students to engage with each other to practice and use the expansion of vocabulary words and phrases acquired within the unit. 5. Recall information from the interactions with peers from the unit and to clarify or to use in home or school settings. 6. Analyze and evaluate the different topics and categories in the English language and to use them in the correct context. 7. Determine the words and phrases within a text and its meaning. 8. Explain the definition of vocabulary words and to use them within context.
