Consider the organization you currently work for or one with which you are quite
familiar.
Here, I'll go over the performance compensation scheme that 7-Eleven Inc., the world's
largest convenience store, has put in place (7-Eleven Inc., 2023). I was employed by this
company as a sales associate. What type of performance review process do they have?
The process of assessing an employee's overall job performance is known as a performance
review or assessment (Long & Singh, 2022, Pg. 336). The field review approach and
behavioral observation measures are employed in this organization to assess the performance
of individual employees. Under the field review approach, workers are observed in-person for a period of time in order
to assess their performance on the job.
How often do they review performance? Who conducts the review?
An inspection is used each month to assess how well employees are performing on their jobs.
Verifying employee performance and ensuring the company can provide clients with the
highest-quality products are the primary goals of the review process. Mystery shoppers typically do the field review. People from outside the store are known as
mystery shoppers, and they have received special training in performing field reviews (Long
& Singh, 2022, Pg. 348). The mystery shoppers assess the sales associate's and other
employees' work performance based on employee conduct, store cleanliness, and product
quality.
Do you feel the evaluation tool is able to effectively and fairly assess your performance
compared to others?
Indeed. Since only one professional mystery shopper is assigned to assess employees each
month, the field review approach fairly evaluates each employee's performance. As so, it
improves the appraisal method's consistency and dependability. Additionally, it gives
managers a second view on how well their staff are performing, which helps to reduce other
rating inaccuracies.
Is your compensation linked to this evaluation method?
No, the evaluation technique has nothing to do with my pay. Each employee receives points
on a monthly basis based on the field review, and after six months, the store with the highest
point total will earn a reward that will be distributed among the staff members of the store.
But there is no bearing this evaluation system has on my pay.
Do you think the amount of compensation tied to varying levels of performance is fair
and motivating to you as an employee? What would you change if you could?
To be honest, I think the salary I receive as an employee is inspiring and reasonable. If I were
to alter the performance review procedure, I would like to add individual performance
compensation in the form of bonuses, which would be awarded to staff members who surpass
their job goals.
