Have you known anyone with a disability at work
?
Part 1
1.
What are some challenges that employees have who are disabled on a day-to-day basis?
Hello Fellow Classmates & Instructor,
I pray that everyone is having a great week so far. My week consisted of working on class assignments, working on my home project, and of course going to work at my job. The weather was very
nice this week till early this morning where it changed dramatically, temperatures dropped with rain and wind. Part 1
Employees with disabilities must overcome so barriers they face at the workplace daily. They still face discrimination even if they are well educated with a college degree. One of these barriers they may five in the workplace is lack of accommodations, some businesses are reluctant to make certain accommodations for their employees with disabilities, it’s sad but true. Employees with disabilities also must face challenge in unrealistic expectations especially when it comes to communication in the workplace. One example of this, is asking a blind employee to attend a meeting where all the employees watch a company video without any aid (Goodwill, 2021).
Hello Fellow Classmates & Instructor, Part 2
I pray that everyone is having a glorious week so far. My week has gone by so fast. I can’t believe we are on our last week of this course. Can you? There are several specific accommodations that
workers with disabilities have in the workplace. One of them being the most common accommodation found in the workplace for workers with disabilities and that is accessible parking. Accessible parking, which is also known as handicap parking, which allows the worker a closer parking spot to the workplaces building
(ADA, 2022). Another reasonable accommodation would be allowing a worker with a disability that requires a service animal to be able to have the animal inside the workplace. Employers changing their equipment to accommodate the workers with disabilities and providing alternative formats, such as the employer giving their feedback by writing rather than verbally, and so forth
(ADA, 2022). I wish all of you the best
of luck as you keep moving forward with your education. May all of you have a blessed evening. Stay safe and healthy.
