9-1 Project Submission: Communication Strategy for Adaptive Leadership Toolkit
By: Cynthia Montes
February 6, 2024
Business Problems
Through the employee satisfaction survey assessment, I have concluded that the organization's current business problems revolve around the leadership approach. Employees of the organization are not satisfied with the leadership practices, which has caused a decrease in contentment with company strategy, employee reward and recognition, and job satisfaction. Employees feel they need to be more supported by leadership and need clarification about their roles within the company. One of the significant issues in the company relates to the need for more focus on recognition and praise. Applying an adaptive leadership toolkit will address these problems by focusing on the leadership and their ability to lead effectively by adapting to change
and preparing for the future. Examples of the tools that shall be utilized include:
An Emotional Intelligence Assessment.
Developing SMART Goals.
Applying The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership and Practicing Behavioral Integrity.
These tools will force leaders to self-assess and become more self-aware in handling personal and professional situations. Thus, the core issues that need to be addressed in the entity revolve around adopting a better leadership approach so that the employee satisfaction level can be improved.
Current Strengths
My review of the employee survey has implied that the skills and behaviors that are current strengths exhibited by leadership working conditions and job satisfaction. The fact that employees have made it clear that they are proud of the company they work for despite their
disappointment in leadership indicates they are not ready to give up on the company, see the potential, and are satisfied with the working conditions. This proves that leaders fostering a positive work environment are critical to the organization's success and have made the employees optimistic about the company's future.
Current Areas of Weakness
As discussed, the current areas of weakness include the company's lack of strategy, providing employee job satisfaction, and the lack of rewards, recognition, and praise for employee work. These weaknesses exhibit the need to improve leadership skills, which include communication, intrapersonal skills, active listening, self-awareness, and innovation skills. Implementing an Emotional Intelligence (EI) assessment is essential to improve these skills. It will aid in understanding one's emotions and how they manage them. The improvement of leadership's emotional intelligence will not only make them more self-aware but also help them connect with employees. An emotional connection with employees will allow leadership to learn ways to motivate them.
Personal Development Plan
The personal development plan that needs to be implemented in the adaptive leadership toolkit will assist in maintaining motivation as you set your sights on a specific goal. It clarifies the direction you need to go, builds self-esteem as you advance toward your goal, helps in terms of time- management, and will assist in bringing attention to potential challenges you may face. SMART goals can be used to define the path taken to achieving set goals. There are five parts to
creating a SMART goal, and they consist of being specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. Following these SMART guidelines improves the chances of successfully reaching the targets. It also provides the metrics needed to measure the success of that improvement and the relevance to the bigger picture, which could be to become a more effective leader.
Leadership Styles
Developing a PDP and SMART goal could help build leadership styles for leaders. SMART goal setting can benefit the leader in understanding how to overcome those weaknesses and become the effective leader that employees need. An LPI assessment will help in understanding what area of leadership needs improvements. Personal plan development and SMART goal setting will ensure leadership periodically tracks its effectiveness and continues the
path intended to accomplish long-term goals by achieving short-term goals first. What is excellent about this strategy is that those leaders can continuously use this method in the future. This is ideal for situations where new adaptive leadership skills are needed.
Adaptive Leadership Toolkit
The Adaptive Leadership Toolkit addresses significant problems and business issues that companies face. The toolkit can be used by various stakeholders, such as CEOs, Directors, Managers, Human Resources Managers, and Team leaders, depending on the severity of the problem or area of concern. As per the article "Adaptive Leadership" (2001), technical challenges can be resolved with a one-time solution, whereas adaptive challenges require time and may need cultural shifts within the organization. The Adaptive Leadership Toolkit assists
