1 4-3 Assignment: Project Management Strategies Robert R Swanson Southern New Hampshire University QSO 321 Kristin Clar September 24th, 2023
2 NationaliTeas Work Flow Assessment Lean Manufacturing Lean manufacturing is a way of making things that is based on the idea that a manufacturing operation should be as productive as possible while also wasted as little as possible. Waste is anything that doesn't bring value buyers are willing to pay for, according to lean. (TWI Ltd, 2023). When I first look at a process flowchart, the first thing that stands out to me as not being in line with the principles of lean manufacturing is the first step, which reads as follows: "Leaves are removed from trays and reweighed; poor-quality leaves are thrown away." (SNHU, 2023). This can be done while inspecting the leaves visually in the previous stage. Bad leaves are sorted out as they are visually inspected. Following "Leaves are sorted; small, misshaped, or discolored tea leaves are discarded," (SNHU, 2023). The following step that I believe does not add value is "Weighing the leaves," (SNHU, 2023). Which comes after "Leaves are sorted." (SNHU, 2023). After the leaves have been sorted to remove any damaged or inferior specimens, only then should they be placed on the scale. Sustainability It is recommended that the following four phases be taken out of the process: "Leaves are removed from trays and reweighed; poor-quality leaves are thrown away," "Leaves are weighed," "Leaves get a second sorting," and "Tea bags are sealed." (SNHU, 2023). I believe these four stages can very simply be combined into the step that came before it in the list. There will still be some labor involved, but it can be combined with adjacent tasks into a single, continuous movement. Companies that have their operations streamlined have a higher degree of transparency. When everything is in one place, it's much simpler to monitor employee progress and spot problems like late submissions. (Team, 2023).
3 Process Changes With these removed, the process flow will become much more streamlined and efficient. By combining certain processes with those that come after them in the process, this will cut down on the amount of time spent waiting between each step. This will assist in aligning the Triple Bottom Line through the construction of a workflow that is freer flowing and easier for the employers. The company will also benefit from faster output to clients and enhanced manufacturing times, both of which are likely to be highly received by the company's consumers. Issue Log. My analysis of the issue log led me to the conclusion that the first thing we should do is meet face to face with the project's stakeholders and discuss their respective roles. Knowing what customers want and how to get it done is a huge step forward. After that, we can restate that our project team will finish these activities within the allotted timeline and within the allocated budget if their vision on the final product is scoped in and achieved. Research can be done to compare the prices of shiny foil packaging with those of the more common paper variety to see if it can be afforded. I'm also interested in learning how effectively this product addresses the environmental dimension of the Triple Bottom Line. Meeting with procurement with the intent of receiving a breakdown of the new money would allow us to discover how the funds should be used and whether it will modify any timelines or tasks stated within the project charter. Operations Management Techniques Both Lean Manufacturing and Project Management will offer value to NationaliTeas by streamlining production for both employees and customers, as well as implementing more environmentally friendly products. This will allow for a more streamlined experience overall. NationaliTeas will be able to manufacture more product for its clients at a faster rate thanks to
