Research Plan Define Research Objectives At Chick-fil-A Lilburn, there is a lack of consistent and well-defined closing systems as well as a lack of accountability. One decision statement stemming from this problem is the question “What systems will lead to more efficient closing that takes less time, without sacrificing the quality of work?” Based on this decision statement, one research objective is to define a closing system that will be efficient and produce a high-quality result. This closing system should be clearly defined, consistent regardless of who is leading the shift, and include accountability for the quality of work performed. Research Design A newly proposed closing system has been developed that will be tested in this research. We will begin by collecting preliminary data on the past 30 days of closing, including who was leading the shifts, who was working that night, their caliber, the time the team clocked out, and the number of labor hours used to complete the closing process. The proposed closing system has been introduced and thoroughly explained to the leaders. Trials of this system began this past Wednesday. The same data will be collected on the next 30 days of closing, with the new system being tested. Leaders will be followed up with after each shift, asking if they followed the new system and asking their opinion of how it went, along with the data of who was leading the shifts, who was working that night, their caliber, the time the team clocked out, and the number of labor hours used to complete the closing process. The target population is the average closing labor hours under the past system and the average closing labor hours under the new system. A sample size of 30 nights will be collected under the past system by analyzing preliminary data through observation. Upon implementation of the new system, a sample size of 30 nights worth of data will be collected on the new system, representing the efficiency of the new system ongoing. Comparing this data will allow us to determine if the new system achieves the objective of being consistent regardless of who is leading, providing accountability, and maintaining efficiency while producing a high-quality result.
